Saturna, MTV, SXSW, and One Old Green Bus February 28, 2007

Saturna are pleased to report that their song Chasing The Unpredictable was featured in Bam’s Unholy Union episode 4 entitled Off With Her Shirt.  The Saturna song starts off the scene where Missy gets a call from Playboy asking Bam to do a shoot of her for a spread in their magazine.  This is the second time that MTV has used Saturna songs during Bam’s show that chronicles his engagement and wedding.  The Saturna song Springboard was used in the first scenes of Unholy Union Episode 1.   MTV also recently posted an artist page for Saturna

Saturna are very excited to be heading to Austin, TX.  Sound on the Sound from Seattle reported the upcoming SXSW parties and tell us that KEXP will broadcasting live from SXSW.  They also say they are excited to see The Lashes, one of the bands Saturna will be playing with at Copa on Friday, March 16th.

Dusk Diary calls Saturna “completely different” and “well worth a feature.”  They compare Saturna to The Jesus and Mary Chain, Love and Rockets and even KISS!.

And in a strange and wonderful mention, the One Old Green Bus blog mentioned they were surfing for New Wave bands and found Saturna.  One Old Green Bus is an interesting blog, written by a couple from Toronto, who are trying to get enough donations to be able to buy the bus of their dreams.  They mentioned that they were suffering from the winter blues.  We understand.  It’s been raining in Portland for weeks too…

Saturna is pleased to announce that we will be crashing the unofficial party scene at SXSW.  Saturna will be playing shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.  Friday and Saturday nights we will be supporting the film Weathered Underground at Copa.  Over the two nights we will be joined by none other than The Lashes, Schoolyard Heroes, The Blakes, Rocket, Sirens Sister and other bands featured in the film.

Weathered Underground is a amazing new movie that is similar to the Choose Your Own Adventure books that you’d read as a kid.  It has hundreds of options and multiple endings.  Check out the trailer:

Saturna are excited to announce that we have finally finished mixing all the songs for our upcoming debut full length album.  Due out May 29th, it will have eleven tracks and will be titled Some Delicious Enemy.  The LP was mostly mixed by Brin Addison (Smashing Pumpkins, Smashmouth), but tracks were also mixed by Tony Lash (The Dandy Warhols, Stars of Track and Field, Elliot Smith) and the lovely Steve Anderson (of Saturna of course).

Stay tuned for the tracklisting and sneak peaks at the artwork by Justin Dylan Renney.

Saturna Head To SXSW February 9, 2007

There a lot of exciting things happening in our world.  The biggest news is that Saturna are heading to SXSW to play a couple of parties.    We don’t have all the details yet, but we’ll have everything confirmed early next week and will pass along the details then.  What we have heard is an amazing lineup.  We can’t wait, its going to be one crazy weekend!

As far as our new CD is concerned, we’re finishing up the artwork today and the final mixes will be ready next Tuesday.  Then they’re off to duplication, so we can get them back by SXSW.  We’ll release the tracklist and album title next week too after that is finalized.

Our friends at Berkley Place came back from the dead, partly due to Saturna.  Unfortunately the RIAA pressured Berkely Place out of the blog-o-sphere last fall, but they’re back.  Check out the interesting story here:  http://berkeleyplace.wordpress.com/2007/02/04/im-baaaaaaaaack/

Saturna t-shirts are popping up in SE Asia.  Our friend Brandon Follett, who is traveling through Cambodia got a JFK style haircut in a barber shop in Phnom Penh while wearing his red Saturna t-shirt.  Check out his short film chronicling the event and his JFK haircut theme song here:  http://earthwormenvy.wordpress.com/2007/02/07/john-f-kennedys-hair/

Anna Creech from Blog Critics Magazine posted about Saturna and linked to some mp3s.  Just like when they wrote a review of “…All Night” last week, this post was replicated and reprinted all over the world.  Thanks Anna. Check it out here: http://blogcritics.org/archives/2007/02/05/090517.php

And last but not least, Skidmark Media in the UK have reviewed “…All Night” and listed Saturna as one of their Top 3 Artists of 2006 along with The High Violets and The Spacial Entrepreneurs.  Check out Skidmark here: http://www.skidmark.org

Thanks to Ack from Hero Hill for asking me to sit down with him and answer a few questions about Saturna.    He definitely asked some good questions that weren’t your usual soft interview questions and I gave him some honest answers.
