Last night a bunch of us went and saw former Catherine Wheel singer Rob Dickinson at the Doug Fir in Portland, OR.  Wow, what an amazing voice.  I have to say, Catherine Wheel is one of those bands that if you got a chance to see them live, and I saw every tour they did, that can convey immense emotion.

I remember seeing them play Eat My Dust You Insensitive Fuck in Seattle at the Paramount and tearing up at Rob’s beautiful voice.  Last night he just played with his acoustic guitar and nothing else.  It was so insanely beautiful to hear him sing without anything else clouding it.  The acoustic was nice accompaniment, but you could hear him so clearly that every nuance of his voice was present, even the endearing occasional fuck up.

He started off with Heal and immediately drew us all in.  The place was silent.  He then played a few new songs from his solo record including My Name is Love and Oceans.  After that he played I Want To Touch You  in a different way that was hardly recognizable, but interesting.  He also played Delicious, Crank and ended with Black Metallic.  We got him back out for a short encore of Future Boy

If you have a chance to see him on this tour get out there for an experience you won’t quickly forget.  Rob was an engaging performer and  hung around afterwards to talk to people and sign autographs.  I got my Chrome CD signed.  yay!
